This series contains the central correspondence files of the U.S. Maritime Commission. The files, with accompanying exhibits, comprise eight groupings relating to the administration, function, and jurisdiction of the agency. These include general administrative files, general organization and personnel policy files, and files dealing with appropriations, finance and accounts. Files relating to the Commission's function and jurisdiction cover shipping trade routes and traffic, matters relating to ship construction programs, vessel operations, and vessel operating subsidies. Finally, there is a group containing individual files for each vessel owned or operationally controlled by the Commission (files beginning with 901).
